An online CAD degree centers its courses on the use of drafting software. Computer-aided drafting applications are used to draft visual plans for construction and engineering. Along with drafting training classes are background subjects in mathematics and communications skills.
Through an online CAD degree or on campus university program, students will develop the skills necessary for entry-level jobs such as architectural drafter, CAD drafter, structural drafter or auto CAD professional.
Like all computer degrees online, CAD courses may be completed at home at the student's pace. There are specialized courses for manufacturing, interior design, architecture or mechanical drafting. Some schools also offer a CAD minor with an online web design degree. These are for designers who use CAD with Internet applications.
AutoCAD graduates can enroll in a game design degree online to combine skills for content generation. A student may earn an online CAD certification in less than a year. Associate and bachelor's CAD degree online courses can take form two to four years.
These schools offer both an online CAD degree and certification programs.
Westwood College
The college offers an Associate degree in computer-aided design / architectural drafting.
The computer-aided program has an accelerated learning approach that can help the student graduate and earn a bachelor’s degree in three years.
Course topics for the degree include:
Residential CAD Design
Commercial CAD Design
Residential Construction Documents
Commercial Construction Documents
3D AutoCAD
The learning program provides students with the education needed to understanding architectural concepts for commercial and residential buildings.
Graduates are prepared to take exams for these certifications:
AutoDesk, AutoCAD, AutoCAD Architecture
AutoCAD Civil 3D
Autodesk Inventor
Revit Architecture
Penn Foster Career School
The Penn Foster AutoCAD Essentials Certificate Program trains students in the software's fundamentals.
Prerequisites for the course are a working knowledge of Windows-based PCs and basic drafting skills. Those without these prerequisite skills may take Penn Foster's Drafting with AutoCAD Career Diploma Program.
The AutoCAD Essentials Certificate program is made up of a series of courses that teach AutoCAD fundamentals. The first course is sent right after enrollment. Other courses follow once the student passes the exam at the end of the course.
A Windows-based computer with Internet access is required for the course.
Through the course series, the student studies basic drafting options. These include geometric objects and complex geometric figures. There are lessons on how to dimension a drawing and configure it for plotting.
The course series also covers hatching commands, creating and inserting block references, attaching and detaching reference files. The course finishes with lessons in digital tablets and customizing Auto CAD for specific drafting requirements such as electronic schematic drafting.
Students may access an online library for research and other resources. Tuition includes books, lessons, drafting tools, and software.
